Spring Quotes and Fifth Avenue Flowers

Spring has finally sprung in New York. Hallelujah! In celebration, here are some spring quotes along with photos of cherry blossoms in Central Park and tulips on Fifth Avenue.
“I stuck my head out the window this morning and spring kissed me bang in the face” — Langston Hughes
“Give me the splendid silent sun with all his beams full-dazzling” — Walt Whitman
“What delights us in the spring is more a sensation than an appearance, more a hope than any visible reality. There is something in the softness of the air, in the lengthening of the days, in the very sounds and odors of the sweet time, that caresses us and consoles us after the rigorous weeks of winter” — Philip Gilbert Hamerton
In my case, spring fever is real. Is it for you too?
Traveling to Manhattan this spring?

I have been taking such deep breaths lately…because the air is simply so breath-able. And I have found myself wishing that one could bottle the damp smell just before a rain. In my area of the midwest, the morel mushrooms are beginning to pop through…there for the taking if one knows how to look for them.
Apr.18, 2011 | 12:03 amWell, that’s 2 things Kansas City beats us at: lovely damp smell just before it rains and mushrooms at your feet. When I lived in Connecticut we had monster mushrooms growing by the river, but have no idea what kind they were.
Apr.18, 2011 | 8:17 amI love this time of year although it is also my nemesis — when the wisteria comes in I get drunk on the pollen, just like the black bees, and sometimes this leads to a full blown cold, as it did this year. Cough, cough. Sneeze. But it is very beautiful — definitely worth the cold!
Apr.18, 2011 | 12:39 pmYou always have these juicy facts I’ve never heard before. Who knew bees got drunk or that wisteria pollen was behind it. And you’re right. Spring beauty is definitely worth a cold or two.
