Martin has Terri’s vacation schedule. I love it. We travel in January to deal with the semester issue.

I’m impressed you’ve been self employed for a long time. I tried it 2007-2010 and the experience brought me to my knees. I gained 20 lbs due to stress I’m still trying to lose. I would never ever try it again.

What do you think makes you a successful entrepreneur?

In considering a teaching career, I think it was the ample time off that most appealed to me. Plus most teachers I knew traveled in Europe every summer. Seemed very glamorous.

As an academic, I actually enjoy 9-10 weeks off, with paid personal leave up to one day a month. The only problem with my “vacation” is that it must come at the designated time between semesters. I’m realizing that I’m spoiled.

Nobody knows how to live better than the Italians. With your family dynamics being so difficult to begin with, can imagine the added stress of vacation home visits.

I’ve been my own employer for ages with short staff stints along the way for some quick cash. Currently all vacations are off till I finish building my new web site.

Have to solve SSB blog problem now so will visit your new post tomorrow.

I want to move to Italy! Just kidding. The vacation situation is so horrible here in the US I think many workers delay vacations until they’re between jobs. As I’d moved to California from NY in 1990 I always had spend precious vacation time visiting family back in NY, which always made the time off feel shorter and made family dynamics even more stressful than usual.

I hope your own employer gives you a decent number of days off per year.
