Labor Day Quotes and Sliding down Rainbows
Do I believe in that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Only if we’re talking about Brigadoon. Still, it’s a pretty thought. Here are some other thoughts about gold, work, working and what many do best — thinking about working:
“Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow” ~ Douglas Pagels
“There are no passengers on spaceship earth. We are all crew” ~ Marshall McLuhan
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work” ~ Thomas A. Edison
“Opportunities multiply as they are seized” ~ Sun Tzu
“Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold – but so does a hard-boiled egg” ~ Anonymous
“It will not always be summer: build barns” ~ Hesiod
“The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it” ~ John Ruskin
“It is not how busy you are, but why you are busy – the bee is praised, the mosquito is swatted” ~ Author Unknown
“Always leave enough time in your life to do something that makes you happy, satisfied, or even joyous. That has more of an effect on economic well-being than any other single factor” ~ Paul Hawken
More on the working life:

Happy Labor Day Pat! I hope you have a relaxing weekend and get to slide down a rainbow. Me, I’ll be sewing
.
Sep.03, 2011 | 5:29 pmThis weekend has nowhere to go but UP. Today stayed in All day from 9 to 7 waiting for a Verizon repairman to come and fix my broken, storm damaged phone. Natch he never showed. Have been without a phone for 5 days and have finally broken down and admitted I need a cell. Kafka would have felt right at home dealing with all the robots now in charge of Verizon phone support. Not a single flesh and blood person anywhere on the premises.
Sep.03, 2011 | 8:53 pmI know what you mean. I recently got added to Martin’s plan as it’s only $10 per month to add a new person as opposed to the $45 per month I was paying for my own AT&T cell. He got verizon because he got a Droid phone (to work on the smart phone apps last year) and only verizon supports Droid (or something like that). I just got a plain phone as i’m not much of a cell user, but I couldn’t check my voice mail using my password because the keypad couldn’t support the required characters per the web site and they both have to be the same. Hours trying to get through to support later, they changed the password on their side to match what the keypad can support. Honestly!
I hope you get your cell soon and that it’s not verizon!
Sep.04, 2011 | 2:58 pmLet me put it this way – I cannot WAIT to cancel my Verizon landline. Unfortunately for local calls in the city, it’s either Verizon or AT &T (another winner in the inept dept) so I’m going to test out a cell for maybe all my calls.
I tell you, having a man around can be nice sometimes for things like joint cell phone plans. If only there was a place to rent a guy for important things like that…
